Pet Food Nutrition And Choices

Pet food has changed a lot in recent years. Your choices are not just large chunky dry food for pets. Pet owners have the choice of offering their pets many quite a selection of flavored pet food. There are also different types, like small and moist chunks. Additionally, there are single serving packets or for pets on the go. As always, you have the ever present can food, which comes in a vast array of flavors. Unfortunately, not all pet foods are equal in nutrition value.

Most pet owners want to give their companion pets the best. That should start with nutrition. If you find it difficult to determine the nutrition values, you are not alone. However, the internet has simplified that. You can do a couple of quick searches via Google, Yahoo or MSN and find a great deal of information on almost any major brand of pet food.

While reading about the different brands and types of pet food, you will notice the many choices you have. That is, do you want to maintain your pets current level of health? Is your pet over-weight? What is your pets age? Does your pet currently have any specific medical issues? There are so many choices, you will want to take a little extra time to read about the options in pet foods available.

Talking about over-weight pets. This is interesting. In January of 2007, the Pfizer Animal Health division introduced SlentrolTM)- a drug for obese and over weight dogs. Slentrol is an FDA approved drug for canine weightloss. It is truly a ground breaking new drug for dogs.

The development of Slentrol could not have come at a better time. With the increasing amount of over-weight dogs today, it sounds like research completed by the Pfizer Animal Health division will be able to help many dogs. hopefully, the dog owners will also understand that dogs, like humans, must have physical exercise involved to make their weight loss program successful.

The introduction of Slentrol weightloss drug for dogs by Pfizer was provoked by the ever increasing amount of obese and over weight dogs in the United States. The medical name for Slentrol is Dirlotapide. Claudia A. Kirk, an associate professor from the University of Tennessee, states that 40 percent of dogs in the US are over weight.

Nutrition values are better than ever. Good quality nutrition pet food is readily available today. Pet owners can feed their pets very nutritious dinners and snacks just as easy as giving them low quality chunky dry food. Do not give up on finding the nutritionally right food for your pet. Although it can be challenging, remmeber the internet can provide a lot of information on nutrition value for pet food. Have patience with your pet food nutrition search as well as with your pet deciding on one she likes.

You have a lot of choices today when it comes to pet food. Or, should I say your pet has many choices. Be sure to offer her a pet food that provides the nutrition suitable to your pets age. You will be glad as healthy pets live longer.

Citizens For Animal Protection

During the holiday season, animals need your help more than ever.

Citizens For Animal Protection, or CAP, is a wonderful organization. CAP is a not for profit organization working for the benefit of injured and abandoned animals. The following message is directly from an advertisement by Citizens For Animal Protection.

As people begin to feel the effects of the economy, many are realizing that they can no longer afford to kep their pets. This translates into more pets being abandoned or turned into our shelter. Every contribution is critical to CAP's operation which provides food, medical attention and loving quality care for more than 12,000 animals each year.

Animals who have been abandoned and injured by humans often have the most difficult time recuperating. Tending to their physical condition is just the first step in the process of healing. The staff and volunteers at CAP try to give an animal a second chance regardless of personal sacrifice. One such dog was Tank, a Mastiff mix) who was found tied up to our shelter door. He was 40 pounds underweight, had heartworms, his ears had been cut off, in addition to numerous wounds to his body and spirit.

We knew that tis &slquot;gentle giant&srquot; had special needs, but we never thought it would take a full year to enable him to beready for adoption. Initially, Tank was afraid ofmany humans and especially afraid of the dark. His suffering must have been enermous. Trips in the car, runs in the park, overnight stays at selected foster homes and extra attention from our staff finally readied Tank for a permanent home. At his new adoptive home Tank has found love and the joy of romping with his new &lsquot;brother&rsquot;, Blackjack also adopted from CAP). Tank is now far removed from his fears of the past. Many thanks to those whose gifts of time and money made Tank's rehabilitation possible.

One of our longtime volunteers heard a kitty crying somewhere in the walls of the garage of her office building. Frustrated that she could not seem to locate the animal, she enlisted the aid of a CAP staff member and the building custodian. They made an opening in the wall and enticed this precious kitty out of his entrapment. He was rushed to our shelter for much needed hydration and food, and CAP staff immediately named him Wally. Several days later two more kittens were rescued! How they became wedged in the wall is a mystery, but they are lucky that CAP was there and able to save them!

Please consider a generous gift for our orphaned pets like Tank and Wally this holiday season. For just $180 you can sponsor an animal while it is in our care. However, a goft of any size is always appreciated!

P.S. With your gidt to CAP, you can honor your beloved pet or human friend for the holidays. We will notify whomever you designate of your thoughtfulness.Thank you for caring.
